Herman Melville, Moby Dick (1851) with fabulous #mobydiscogroup Big thanks to @anicegreenleaf for organizing, really needed that motivation!
I have read almost one third of the book by now, being very slow, conquering every page, confronting the original with translations. It feels good to finally be reading this book. It took me a few decades to start.
Many readers lament the ‘tedious’, ‘boring’ descriptive parts. I cannot say that they bother me. It feels logic to be reading them, they belong there, they create the texture of the story. I couldn’t imagine to read the abridged version. That would be just an adventurous story then, and MD is much more complex and rich than that. After the brilliant beginning (see the quote in the previous post), it’s being a fabulous, mysterious, spiritual, dark book so far.
